Scenario: Candidate from Silicon Valley is flying to The Big Apple to an interview for a newly created, high tech position that will be based on the West Coast. How should he dress?
Typically, on the West Coast, people tend to dress “Business Casual” for a job interview. That is dress slacks, shirt (open collar, no tie), jacket, and nice shoes. On the East Coast, job interview attire means suit and tie, dress shoes – impeccable and respectful.
So the answer is easy, a no brainer: When in New York, do as the New Yorkers do. Same for most major cities outside of California. Anything less is just not in your best interest.
