Weapon of Choice

"Business is changing…with or without you…" This was the heading of an email I received this morning. And it’s true: Business is changing at a pace that is at once dizzying and thrilling. I liken it to being on a carousel and finding there are other offerings beside the brass ring. Be ready to grab the new offerings before someone else swoops by and grabs it from you!

Today I thought we’d look at LinkedIn. It was less than a year ago that I attended a Stanford Business Management symposium, only to hear many of the brightest people in Silicon Valley describe LinkedIn as a has-been. I personally didn’t agree with these people, but felt (and feel) that LinkedIn is an excellent weapon of choice in many ways. I saw the value in LinkedIn well before they revamped their site, but now I think it’s evident to everyone that LinkedIn is a game-changer in many respects. Let’s look at a couple of areas that LinkedIn can help you in your job search endeavors.

LinkedIn helps you expand your visibility. It lets those you network with know what’s going with you re your job search by having you do updates. It expands your reputation by giving you the ability to add recommendations from your colleagues, including managers, to your profile. It expands your ability to find out more about the people with similar experience to you – that translates to finding out about other companies that may be interested in you. There are even more points to appreciate that I'll share at another time.

Check LinkedIn out and you’ll be dancing on air, just like Dear Christopher here. Oh! And add me to your contacts!

To your success,

Rita
